DeWayne A. Bak, 63, of Hinton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A Masonic service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. follow with a Vigil service all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Reverend Gary Snyder celebrating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
DeWayne was born May 10, 1943in Viborg, South Dakota to Alfred and Martha (Simonsen) Bak. He grew up and school in Irene, SD. DeWayne married Gerri Olson on April 5, 1965 to whom 3 children were born, Dave, Dirk and Darren. DeWayne worked at various places in South Dakota before moving to Sioux City in 1969, where he started Sioux City Ford Tractor. He also owned Bak Equipment and Auto Sales. He later started Bak Honda, Suzuki, Kubota for 35 years. DeWayne later married Teresa DeRocher Landenberger on June 21, 2002 in Sioux City. DeWayne was a successful businessman who was willing to help anyone in need. He was willing to give the shirt off his own back to help family or friends. He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Son. DeWayne was a member of the Blue Lodge, Abu Bekr Shrine, Moose Lodge in Yankton, SD. He also attended St. Michaels Catholic Church in Sioux City.
DeWayne is survived by his wife, Teresa Bak of Hinton, IA; 3 sons, Dave Bak and wife Kati and their children Shawn, Ethan, Addison and Cambryan of Merrill, IA, Dirk Bak and his wife Amy and their children Kinsey, Keegan and Kade of Hinton, IA, Darren Bak and wife Jacqueline of Atlanta, GA, 2 children, Brennen and Kylee Landenberger of Hinton, IA, his mother, Martha Soeth of Irene, SD, Brothers Gene Bak and his wife Sally of The Villages, FL. and Vern Bak and his wife Brenda of Pierre, SD, sister Rita Guild and her husband Bill of Sleepy Hollow, IL. 1st wife Geraldine Olson of Sturgis, SD. his mother-in-law Bonnie DeRocher, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Cyndi DeRocher, Rich and Connie DeRocher, LouAnn and Ed McNamara, David and Julee DeRocher, Don and Tammy DeRocher, Dale and Deb DeRocher, Paul and Kris DeRocher, Donna Ruhland, Mary and Rick Kneip and Karen and Steve Mousel.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Bak, 4 brothers, Alvin, Eugene, Merton and LaValle Bak.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Shriners Children Hospital or the June E. Nylan Cancer Center.
