Marie Asmussen

Marie Asmussen, 91 of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Bickford Cottage. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) with Reverend Valerie Heller officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Marie was born on August 8, 1916, in Sioux City to Lester and Emma (Lang) Rusk. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. After school, she worked at the Air Base and Shore Acres Dance Hall. She later worked at Gift Nook for 4 years. In October, 1946, she married Edward Asmussen in Ponca, Nebraska. Marie then became a homemaker and mother to her daughter Bernadine.

Marie enjoyed arts and crafts and in her younger years she liked boating and fishing. She also enjoyed gambling. Marie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Bernadine Swanger of Sioux City, her grandson Shawn Swanger and his daughter Erika Swanger of Battle Creek, IA. A step-son, Neal Asmussen and his wife Sharon of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward on July 11, 1993.
