Madeline Asmussen, 92, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at a Marina del Rey, Calif. hospital following a brief illness.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today in Remsen City Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa, with the Rev. Craig Miller of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mrs. Asmussen was born April 16, 1914, in Remsen, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Dose) Schorg. She lived in Remsen until she was married and then moved to Le Mars. She married William Asmussen in 1934, in Elk Point, S.D. She was a devoted housewife and mother and was a bookkeeper for the family business in Le Mars. In 1952, the family moved to Los Angeles. She the worked with her sister, Maybelle, designing and fabricating custom hats and handbags.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Earline) of Barrington, Ill., and Richard of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, Linda (Fred) Radecki of Schaumburg, Ill., and Mark (Laura) Asmussen of Aurora, Ill.; a brother, Weldon (Gloria) Schorg of Santa Ana, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents, Henry and Anna Schorg; three sisters, Valeska Crouse, Maleta Dueker and Maybelle Birch; and three brothers, Leonard, Arley and Emory Schorg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any one of the Diabetes Foundations or favorite charity.
