Richard F. Arnold, 74 of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his residence. At his request, his body was cremated and Memorial services for Richard will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel located at 6200 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, Iowa 51106. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Arrangements are by Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Richard was born in Britton, SD to Elmer and Irene (Blood) Arnold on May 5, 1934. After his parents passed away in 1942 he was adopted by his uncle Elden and Aunt Bernice Arnold. He graduated from Britton High School in Britton, SD in 1952. In 1954 he served his country in the United States Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged in 1957.

On January 9, 1960 he was married to Joyce E. Selken in Vermillion, SD. The marriage ended in divorce in 1992.

In January of 1963 he received a B.S. degree in Education from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He taught and coached in Monroe, SD from 19631965. In 1965 he began teaching and coaching in South Sioux City, NE. From 1977-1980 he taught at North High School in Sioux City, IA. He returned to South Sioux City, NE in 1980 and continued to teach there until his retirement in 1997. Since his retirement he has substitute taught in the system and taught the summer driver education course.

He is survived by his four daughters, Sherri Christensen and her children Adam and Amanda of Sioux Falls, SD; Brenda (Kevin) Denny and their children Kaylyn and Kevin Jr. of Loganville, GA; Cindy Arnold and her children Zedrick, Zoya, Ziyad, and Zaneta of Mesquite, TX; and Nikki Arnold and her special friend Russ Leigh and her children Christian, Taylor, and Haley of Sioux City; brother Layton (Marlys) Arnold of Las Vegas, NV; nephews Chris, and Tim Arnold and their families of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son Richard II.
