Frances L. Appelt, 91, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Ccemetery.
Frances was born on May 26, 1916 in Sioux City, to Louis and Mabel (Hall) Larson. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1934. She attended Francis Schimer Womens College in Sterling, IL and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids where she was a member of Ki Omega social sorority.
Frances married Martin Crandall Appelt in 1945 in Sioux City. Frances was a school teacher in Sioux City until 1964 when the family moved to Luverne, Minnesota. She taught at Ellsworth and later at Luverne until she retired in 1983. Frances was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City and Grace Lutheran Church while living in Luverne where she was very active. Frances was also a member of the American Cancer Society and Business and Professional Women in Luverne. She was an avid doll collector and Bridge player. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Frances is survived by her two sons, Martin and wife Paula Appelt of Sioux City, and Bill Appelt of Minneapolis, MN, two grandchildren, Christopher and Allison Appelt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Martin on November 22, 1979.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
