SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Donald D. Andrews, 59, of South Sioux City passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with Larry Adler officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Don was born Nov. 3, 1949, in Emporia, Kan., the second of seven children to Dwayne and Joan Andrews. He grew up in Emporia and graduated from Emporia State University in 1973.

On May 4, 1972, he married Rosemary J. Ratcliff in Emporia. They eventually made their home in South Sioux City and had two children, Matthew and Kristine. He had been employed for more than 35 years with IBP/Tyson Foods.

He was very involved with Siouxland Youth Hockey Association and USA Hockey programs. He served on the Siouxland Youth Hockey Association Board for several years. As a district registrar for USA Hockey, he was responsible for processing registrations for all youth hockey players in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rosemary of South Sioux City; his son, Matthew; his daughter, Kristine of Kearney, Neb.; four brothers and two sisters, Walt and Karen Cambell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sheldon and Deb Andrews of Estherville, Iowa, Dennis and Dianne Andrews, Sue and Gary Gurly, Mary and Vernon Blankley and Gary and Lori Andrews, all of Emporia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwayne and Joan Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, the Andrews family prefers memorials to St. Luke's Bomgaars Center for Cancer Care.
