Henry E. Anderson

Henry E. Anderson, 93, of Sioux City died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Craig Bock officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Sioux City, the son of Ernest and Mary (Johnson) Anderson. He graduated from Akron (Iowa) High School in 1932, and attended the National Business Training College in Sioux City.

He married Dorothy M. Carlson on July 15, 1939, in Sioux City. She passed away May 23, 2002, in Sioux City. In 1934, he started working at the Sioux City Stockyards. He continued to work at the stockyards for 50 years, with 40 of those years serving with the Sioux City Livestock Commission Company, of which he was a partner. He retired from the stockyards on Dec. 31, 1984 and officially retired in 1987.

He enjoyed writing and sending cards to family and friends, talking on the phone and candy. He was best known as a great people person and enjoyed life. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, the Sioux City Livestock Exchange and the Stockyards Booster Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane (Bruce) Johnson of LaCosta, Calif., and Linda (Beck) Amundson of Baraboo, Wis.; three grandchildren, Noel (Jodi) Johnson of Carlsbad, Calif., Mellissa Amundson of Chicago and Ryan Amundson of Madison, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Aaron Johnson; and two brothers, Milton (Mary) Anderson and Stanley (Janet) Anderson, all of Akron, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Eric; a sister, LaVern Dowling; and a brother, Russell Anderson.

Memorials may be directed to St. Luke Lutheran Church or the Sioux City Stockyards History Preservation Fund.
