Sylvia I. Andela

Sylvia I. Harrington Andela, 90, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) with Pastor Kevin W. Roach officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Sylvia was born on October 6, 1918 in Homer, Nebraska to Willard F. and Pearl M. (Howard) Owens. She grew up in the Leeds area and attended Sioux City Schools.

Sylvia married Robert Harrington in April of 1935 in Sioux City. She worked at various places in Sioux City and also caring for 7 children. Robert passed away on September 6, 1980 in Sioux City.

Sylvia later married Andy Andela on September 6, 1986 in Sioux City. She retired as a manager of an apartment complex where Andy was the Apartment Maintenance man. They enjoyed fishing, woodworking together, traveling and word finds. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Sylvia is survived by her husband Andy, who resides at the Good Samaritan Center in Canton, SD, 5 children, Roberta Schoepf of South Sioux City, NE, Shirley Grove of Omaha, NE, Douglas Harrington and wife Diane of West Point, NE, Donald Harrington of Ashland, NE, and Sylvia Lynne Hegdahl husband Chuck of Madison, SD, a son-in-law, Danny Laughlin, a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Harrington, 26 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 60 great, great grandchildren, a brother, Ralph Owens and wife Maxine, 3 sisters, Gerry Harris, Lavina Iverson and Marie Pickens, 2 sisters-in-law Kenna Mae Owens and Eunice Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Robert, 3 children Marvin Harrington, Beverly Laughlin, and Susan Harrington, 1 granddaughter Melissa Belew, 2 great grandchildren,1 great, great grandchild, 4 brothers Alvin, Cecil, Hershel, Wayne.

Serving as casket bearers will be Bob Harrington, Randy Nelson, Deb Grove, Troy Harrington, Marty Harrington, Donnie Laughlin and Sean Hegdahl
