SIOUX CITY -- Sheila Acker of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by her family. She died following a brief illness.
Private services will be Saturday, November 8, 2008 at her daughter's home. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Sheila Lucille O'Donnell was born Jan. 15, 1933, in rural Northfield, Minn. She graduated from high school and married Harold Matthew Acker on Jan. 5, 1952, in Minneapolis.
She spent most of her life loving and caring for her husband and their eight children. She was an accomplished pianist, who shared her love of music with her family.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Tony Acker and his partner, Dave Meyer, and Don Acker and his wife, Kim; five daughters and their husbands, Maureen and Jack Sumner, Lynn and Dr. Jim Pelton, Rita and Rob Hoy, Dr. Denise and Dave Marandola and Lois and Marty Holmes; a daughter-in-law, Michaeline (wife of Ken); 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Ken Acker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mid-Step Services, Lawton Apartments (group home of her granddaughter), 4303 Stone Ave., Sioux City, IA. 51106.
