Lloyd O. Aasen

SIOUX CITY -- Lloyd O. Aasen, 96, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at a local nursing facility.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with family present beginning at 6 p.m. and a prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Lloyd was born on March 23, 1913, in Sioux City, to John F. and Eline B. (Grostad) Aasen. He received his education at East High School, graduating in January 1931. He worked at the Sioux City Journal from 1936 until 1943.

He married Ruth A. Wevick on July 2, 1938. Lloyd continued his education at Iowa State University. While at college, Lloyd entered the U.S. Navy in December 1943, and was activated in February 1944. He served overseas in the Pacific Theater before receiving his honorable discharge as a motor machinist mate second class in January 1946. Lloyd returned to Sioux City and joined the crew at Sioux Tools, where he was a chief industrial engineer, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Sioux City Engineers Club, Scandinavian Society, Nordic Male Chorus, Son's of Norway Organization, and the Antique Car Club. Lloyd was active in the St. John Lutheran Church as secretary and chairman of the trustees for 20 years. He was a first generation Norwegian, where both parents immigrated to the United States from Norway.

Lloyd is survived by his son, Roy Aasen and his wife, Sue of Lompoc, Calif.; grandchildren, Christopher Aasen and Holly Aasen, both of California; four great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mary Anne Aasen of Sioux City.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth in 2006; three brothers; and one sister.
