Yetta L. (Wetzeler) Olson

Yetta L. (Wetzeler) Olson, 104, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Laurice Streysseler officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Yetta was born June 26, 1903, in Hornick, Iowa, to Charles and Bunnie (Myles) Cheely. She attended school in Hornick.

She was married to Herbert Wetzeler on Nov. 30, 1920, and moved to Akron, Iowa. In 1944, they moved to Alta, Iowa. Later in 1947, they returned to Akron. Herbert passed away in December of 1948 in Akron. Yetta married Clifford Olson in June of 1954 in Sioux City. Clifford passed away in March of 1972 in Sioux City. Yetta was a homemaker.

She was a phenomenal and amazing woman with her interests in politics, family history, remembering family birthdays, playing bridge, love of pizza, Mountain Dew, Skittles and eating at Green Gables. Yetta insisted on living in her own home and did so up to one month prior to her death. At the age of 98, she gave up driving her car. What a legend she is in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Family and friends will forever have fond memories of Yetta.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a 60-year member of PEO, first of Chapter JC in Akron, later demitting to Chapter IL in Sioux City, Vesper Chapter 61 Order of Eastern Star in Akron, American Legion Auxiliary Women's Club in Akron and director of First National Bank in Akron for 30 years.

Survivors include two children, Charles (Elsie) Wetzeler of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Mary Ellen Wetzeler Olson of Sioux City; grandchildren, Carol Wetzeler Schultz of Spirit Lake, James (Catherine) Wetzeler of Boone, Iowa, Judith (James) Nece of Spirit Lake, William (Kristin) Wetzeler of Spirit Lake, John (Barbara) Olson of Jefferson, S.D., and Thomas (Ann) Olson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; great-grandchildren, Angela (Matthew) Wetzeler Steuer, Jennifer Wetzeler, Robert (Allison) Wetzeler, Brian Wetzeler, Stephanie (Graig) Schultz Reicks, Andrew Schultz, Nicholas Wetzeler, Benjamin Wetzeler, Ty Olson, Jennifer Olson, Kristye Olson, Alex Olson, Whitney Olson and Derek Olson; great-great-grandchildren, William Steuer, Jacob Steuer, Jacquelynn Olson, Charles Wetzeler and Cooper Wetzeler; stepchildren, Betty Olson Burmester of Dakota Dunes, Terry (Jane) Olson of Long Lake, Minn., Gary (Sandy) Olson of Brighton, Mich., and Nina Jean Olson Dufrane of Maple Grove, Minn.; 13 Olson stepgrandchildren;

20 Olson great-stepgrandchildren; great-stepgrandchildren, Leslie (Jay) McDonald Gonzalez and Blake McDonald; and a great-great-stepgrandchild, Michael McDonald.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sisters; two brothers; a son-in-law, James Olson; a grandson-in-law, Lloyd Schultz; a stepson, Clifford (Sam) Olson; and a stepdaughter, Mariellen Olson Geveshausen.

Pallbearers will be Yetta's great-grandsons.
