Alberta Marie Cardenas

June 24, 1965 — April 22, 2022

Alberta Marie (Franco) Cardenas, 56 of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at a local hospital, comforted by family.  A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Chris Denny officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation, with family present, will be one hour prior to the Celebration of Life Service.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Alberta was born on June 24, 1965 in Iowa City, Iowa to Alberto C. and Eleanor M. (Denny) Franco.  She married Gilberto Gomez in August of 1981, and they were a couple until 1986.  Alberta has been with Ismael Cardenas since 2004.  She has previously lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Lawrence, Kansas, Des Moines, Iowa, Cass Lake, Minnesota, but always missed home and finally returned to Sioux City.  She received her Registered Nursing degree from WITCC in 2011, and she loved caring for people. 

Alberta had studied through the years with Jehovah’s Witnesses, and had a deep respect and understanding of their teachings.  She also had a deep respect for her heritage, as a Native American, enjoying the culture and beliefs. 

Alberta is survived by her significant other, Ismael Cardenas; children Diana (Gomez) Jimenez and her husband William, of Sioux City, Daniel Gomez (Blanca Astorgo) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jessica (Cardenas) Duenas and her husband Oscar of Sioux City, Juliana Cardenas of Sioux City, and Michael Cardenas of Sioux City; mother Eleanor (Denny) James of Sioux City; siblings Douglas Franco of Pheonix, Arizona, Nina (Franco) Towner of Castana, Iowa, Donna (Franco) Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeremiah Franco of Sioux City, Ella Franco of  Seattle, Washington, Yvette Franco of Sioux City, James Lindner of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Trooper James of Sioux City; and grandchildren Erick Gomez, Kiana Tafolla, Ryan Jimenez, Byron Gomez, Ella Duenas, Alitzel Gomez, William Jimenez, Jazlene Duenas, Daniel Gomez, and Caleb Gomez.

Alberta was preceded in death by her grandparents Jeremiah L. Denny, Melvine I. (Rouillard) Denny, father Alberto C. Franco, brother Dalbert J. Franco, and sister Merideth K. James.
