Alexis Kimberly "Lexi" Britson, 42, of Sioux City, a beloved educator, talented artist, and free spirit, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Lexi's extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, starting at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior at the church.
Born on December 13, 1982, in Sioux City, the daughter of Leslie “Les” and Victoria (Strauser) Britson, her vibrant spirit and creativity quickly became evident.
Graduating from Westwood High School in 2001, Lexi enjoyed singing in the Siouxland Youth Chorus and the church band and choir and being a cheerleader and was an active member of the show choir and musical theatre. Her outstanding talent was recognized when she was crowned Queen for the Christmas Madrigal during her senior year, a testament to her vibrant presence and infectious enthusiasm. After high school, Lexi pursued her love of learning at Briar Cliff University. Her dedication led her to earn not just one, but two bachelor's degrees—first in music and theatre, followed by English and secondary education. In every role she played, whether on stage or in the classroom, Lexi inspired those around her.
Lexi's passion for teaching shone brightly throughout her career, as she dedicated herself to shaping young minds at Coleman-Egan Area School and Willow Lake School in South Dakota, and Bishop Heelan, and most recently, North Middle in Sioux City. Her commitment to education was matched only by her love for the performing arts and the community theatre, where she found solace and joy. Her favorite roles in the theatre were the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Donna in Mamma Mia, and Olive in the Female Odd Couple.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lexi found great joy in her hobbies. She loved her cats Olivia, Desdemona, and Hamlet, who were all named from her favorite Shakespeare sonnets. She adored theatre, attended concerts, cherished Broadway productions, and found relaxation in crocheting. These interests were reflections of her artistic nature and her belief in the importance of creativity and expression.
Lexi leaves behind a loving family who adored her. She is survived by her dear parents, Les and Victoria Britson; her brother, Michael, and his wife Rebecca Scherpelz, and their son, Rhys, of St. Louis Park, MN. Lexi also shared a special bond with her Aunt Tina (James) Roberts and their children, Alaina (Zach) Beatty and their children, Izabelle and Lucas, and Matthew (Andrea) and their daughter, Evelyn. Additionally, she is survived by her aunts and uncles, Joyce Britson, Marilyn (Dan) Cox, Carol Britson and her husband Rich Lizotte, along with her uncle Roger and his wife Kathy Britson. Also, cousins Kelly and KC Collins, Cheryl and Luke Manetter, Stacy and Mick Zoske, Jennifer and Eric Kurtz, Wendy Cox, Allison Cox, Nick and Elizabeth Cox, Gemma Lizotte, and George Lizotte.
Preceding her in death was her uncle, Bob Britson and Aunt Toni Strauser, and grandparents Wilbur and Virginia Strauser and R. Ward and Eleanor Britson, and a cousin Andre Kurtz, who will be welcomed by her in a place of peace.
As we gather to honor Lexi's remarkable journey, we will remember her for the joy she brought to our lives, her unwavering kindness, and her incredible legacy as both a teacher and an artist. Lexi Britson's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
