Alice Leona DeRoin, 97, of South Sioux City, NE, passed to Heaven Friday, September13th. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 15, 2013, with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com. Alice was born February 26, 1916 to Oscar and Mary Laird of Homer, NE. Alice married George DeRoin in 1931 and had two children, Betty and Randy. Alice worked alongside her husband building homes. She enjoyed traveling with her family, and often took trips to California to visit her siblings. After George's death, Alice married Clarence DeRoin in 1963. Alice worked the gate at Atokad Park for many years. In retirement, she loved spending Fridays playing 500 with her card club. She was an avid quilter and crocheter and always had a new afghan or quilt to give away. Alice loved cooking and baking for friends and family. Her holiday divinity was a family favorite. She'll be remembered for taking care of her family. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Feldhacker and Mary Miller, both of Red Bluff, Calif; two children, Betty O'Neill (Bob) and Randy DeRoin (Linda); 4 grandchildren: Valerie Danielson (John), Ronald Barnes (Patty), Chris DeRoin, Claire DeRoin, all of South Sioux City, NE; 5 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 siblings, 2 husbands, and a great granddaughter.
