Alice "Gale" Nelson

Alice "Gale" (Miille) Nelson, 90, went to be with the Lord, March 14, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Gale was born on November 7, 1920 to Henry and Maude (Rockwell) Miille in Ponca, NE. After graduating from Ponca High School in 1937, she attended Wayne State College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught one year at the George Wendte School K thru 8th grade, then at the Grosvenor School Daily West until May of 1942. She married Arden Nelson from Maskell, NE on June 13, 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. They rented a home west of Ponca and were engaged in farming. After her father died she and Arden moved to her family home west of Ponca where she had been raised, and she lived there until her death. Arden passed away on January 17, 2004.Gale worked at the Dixon County Court House as a secretary for Attorney Merle Kingsbury and for the Clerk of District Court. She was also the Court House Reporter for the Ponca Nebraska Journal Leader.She was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca where she was choir director and Sunday School Superintendent for many years, as well as being a member of the women's church group, L.C.W. She was also a member of Eastern Star and P.E.O. She loved working in her yard, taking care of her flowers and vegetable garden. Killing weeds was her specialty.She is survived by two sons, Terry and his wife, Cheryl (Gulick) Nelson, and Rick and his wife, Kellee (Harder) Nelson both of Ponca; one sister, Pauline Miille of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Brian Nelson, Brett Nelson and his wife, Heather , T.J. Nelson, Mary Nelson and Cory Nelson all of Ponca, Sarah Nelson of Dakota City, Mark Nelson of Pierre, SD; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Maude Miille; her husband, Arden; infant son, Tommy; son, Larry W. and his wife, Marchelle (Krause) Nelson; sisters Edith Stark, Lucille Putman and Ardith Iddings.
