Anna N. Theros

Anna N. Theros, 94, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Anna was born on January 31, 1931, in Crete, Greece, the daughter of Chrysoula and Loukas Bariatakis. In October 1957, she married Nicholas J. Theros in Crete, and together they embarked on a new journey, immigrating to the United States to build a life filled with hard work, love, and family.

A talented seamstress, Anna worked for Sears and Williges for many years. She and her husband also owned and operated Nick’s Cafe, where they welcomed the community with warm hospitality and delicious food.

Faith and family were at the heart of Anna’s life. In her younger years, she was deeply dedicated to serving God and the church, spending countless hours cleaning the altar of her village church in Crete. She carried that devotion with her throughout her life and remained an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, cherishing time spent with her church family.

She found joy in gardening, sewing, and birdwatching, and was known for her incredible skills in the kitchen. Her homemade Greek dishes and baked goods were a labor of love, bringing family and friends together around the table.

Anna is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sonia (Rick) Jones; stepdaughter, Ethel (Jerry) Buehler; grandchildren, Nicole Madsen and Christopher (Amber) Jones; and great-granddaughters, Isabella, Ava, and Anna.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nick; her parents, Chrysoula and Loukas; and her siblings, Maria, Penelope, Elaine, George, and Yanni.

Anna’s warmth, kindness, and devotion to family will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
