Barbara Ann "Barb" Kindig, 92, of Sioux City, a cherished matriarch, devoted friend, and active community member, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at The Heritage at Northern Hills in Sioux City, surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Holy Cross - Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Randy Schon celebrating. A visitation with the family present will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. and a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Born on February 10, 1932, in Tama/Toledo Township, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Agnes (Kubik) Mull, Barb led a life marked by compassion, generosity, and unwavering faith. She attended Catholic School. Barb married Guy “Junior” Kindig on September 30, 1947, in Tama, IA. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1997, in Sioux City.
Barb’s professional journey began at Genelli Studios, and then she worked for many years at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she became an active and revered member of the congregation. Through her commitment to teaching CCD, guiding young minds, and leading both girl scout and cub scout programs, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless children and their families. They also took in many foster children & adopted the last two. She made many special friends & gave them rides to Church as well inviting them to Holiday’s Dinners with the family. Barb’s passion for service extended beyond her family and Church, as she served on the Board of the Bargain Center and volunteered at both Bargain Center & Trinity Heights for many years, contributing her time and energy to uplift her community.
A woman of deep faith and vibrant spirit, Barb found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for BINGO and attending baseball games brought her much happiness, and those who knew her will forever remember her as a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and a pillar of strength within her family.
Barb is survived by her beloved children, Cathy (Mike) Griggs of Sioux City, Larry (Carol) Kindig of Waterloo, NE and Doug (Michelle) Kindig of La Vista, NE, Special Friends Randy & Kathy Soloman of Sioux City adopted daughters, Janet Bingen and Bobbie Brewer; her grandchildren: Kevin Griggs, Denise Brekke, Matt (Wendy) Kindig, Becky (Brian) Cotton, Jeff (Amy) Kindig, and Traci Kindig. She also rejoices in the gentle presence of her great-grandchildren - Jessica, Emily, Nick, Talynn, Trevor, Brandon, Jaycey, Aubree, Kynli, Miles, Laynie, Devin, Arieslyn, Charlotte, and Benjamin - and her great-great-grandchildren, Tate, Lane, and Madden.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Mull and Agnes Chaloupek, her devoted husband, Guy "Junior" Kindig; as well as one brother and two sisters, along with several brothers in-law & sisters-in-law. Each of these beloved souls undoubtedly welcomed her into the embrace of eternity.
