Belva M. (Colson) Watchorn

Belva (Colson) Watchorn, 90, of Ponca, NE passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Elms Health Care Center in Ponca, NE.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Dr. Bud Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Belva was born in Benton, Maine, February 15, 1923. She was daughter of the Clyde Colson and Hattie (Libby) Colson. She Graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Maine in 1941 and from Thomas Business College in Waterville, Maine in 1942. She worked at the office of New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine for three years. The shipyard built Liberty ships for the war effort. She then worked in the office of Fairfield Creamery in Fairfield, Maine before coming to Ponca to marry Dave on November 11, 1946. They had two sons, David Clyde and Terry. She cared for her family and worked at the Ponca ASCS office for 27 years, retiring March 1983.She was a member of the Ponca Garden Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and making holiday events very special, working in her garden and traveling. She and Dave visited all the states in their travels, went on several cruises, and numerous bus tours.She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford Clyde Colson and Hattie Libby Colson; her brother, Sherwin Colson; her sister, Arlene Carr; a nephew, Roger Carr; a niece, Donnie Carr; a grandson, Douglas M Watchorn; and a step-granddaughter, Trisha Madson.She is survived by her husband, David R. Watchorn; her sons, David C. Watchorn and his wife Carol of Ponca and Terry Watchorn and his wife Carol of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
