Bertha Ebel

Bertha Ebel, 87, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.In honor of Bertha's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Bertha was born on August 15, 1928 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of William and Bertha (Vanderharr) Verschoor. She graduated from East High School. She married Gerald Ebel and they lived in Glendale, CA before moving back to Sioux City, IA. Bertha worked as a Supervisor at Northwestern Bell in Sioux City for 35 years, then at South Sioux City's Walmart for 25 years before retiring at the age of 83.She was very active with fundraisers for the Children's Miracle Network. She always put others before herself, was a well-liked wonderful person, and a mother to many. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their hockey, baseball and football games. She also enjoyed vacationing in Okoboji.Survivors include her children, Gerry (Carol) Ebel of Yankton, SD, Sue (Ron) Johnson of Kingsland, TX and Barby (John) Rockwell of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Angie (Mick) Halestab, Mick (Shannon) Sabella, Gerry (Nikki) Ebel, Becky Schwartz, Jen (Bernie) Solomon, Ronnie Johnson and Josh (Sue) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Molly, Jack, Cooper, Jaxon, Chandler, Dylan, Devan, Dawson, Miranda, Aaron, Lucas, Tyler, Breckin, Rheannon and Gavin; brothers, Jim (Teresa) Verschoor, Dick (Patti) Verschoor and Mike (Virjean) Verschoor; sister, Judy (Don) Karrer; sister-in-law, Marceil Drier; and many nieces and nephews.Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Verschoor; her husband, Gerald Ebel; 2 sisters, Mary Ann and Joanie; and a brother, Bill.
