Betty L. Black, 94, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully at a local care center on Monday, December 9, 2024. She left behind a legacy of love and dedication that touched all who knew her.
Private graveside services were held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Betty was born on September 27, 1930, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of George and Cecilia (Sengelman) Nailor.
She graduated from Climbing Hill High School. She married Verle Black on September 27, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 23, 2010. Betty was known for her commitment to her career in healthcare, where she worked at the hospital in Onawa and the Indian Hills Care Center. Her nurturing spirit was evident in both her professional and personal life. Betty was not only an exceptional caregiver but also a devoted mother who raised three boys with unwavering love and support.
Betty cherished her hobbies, particularly crocheting and needlework. These artistic pursuits were more than just pastimes; they reflected her generous heart and creative soul. She took joy in helping her husband Verle on the farm, where their shared dedication to family and hard work created a loving home.
Betty is survived by her sons: Gerald "Jerry" (Cindy) Black of Elkhorn, NE, and Ron (Deb) Black of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Jan Black of Sioux City; grandchildren: Dustin, Joshua, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Joseph, Stephanie, and Cory; and numerous great-grandchildren. They will carry forward the values she instilled in them, remembering her as a great mom who provided unconditional love and support.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cecilia Nailor, her husband, Verle, her son, Tim Black; and her siblings.
