Betty J. King, 90, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2013, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.Betty was born in Decatur, NE on January 3, 1924, the daughter of George and Gladys (Campbell) Conklin. She graduated from South Sioux City High School. Betty married Lester Russell in July, 1941 in Emerson, NE. To this union three daughters were born. They later divorced. Betty married Earl "Duke" King in 1967 in Elk Point, SD. Earl passed away in 1997. Betty worked for Northwestern Bell, retiring after over twenty-two years of service. She enjoyed the companionship of John Pope for the past twelve years.Betty was a member of the Eagle's Club and the South Sioux City Senior Center. She loved dancing and enjoyed working on arts and crafts and reading. She especially loved spending time with her family including her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.Survivors include her companion, John Pope of South Sioux City, NE; 3 daughters, Connie Kafton of Mapleton, IA, Rita McManigal Dunlap and her husband, Roy Dunlap of Erwin, SD and Jody Russell of South Sioux City, NE; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mickey (Jarold) Gilson and Phyllis Shreve of Kingman, AZ, and Ramona (Vernon) Georgesen of South Sioux City, NE; sister-in-law, Yvonne Conklin of South Sioux City, NE; brother-in-law, Don Struble of Onawa, IA; and many nieces and nephews.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gladys Conklin; husband Earl "Duke" King; 1 grandchild; 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Merrill and Donald Conklin; sister, Norma Struble; and sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Larry Hattig.
