Betty Deloras O'Neill

Betty Deloras O'Neill, 86, of South Sioux City, Nebraska died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 18 , 2018 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in South Sioux City. Betty was born September 5 , 1931 in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Alice (Laird) DeRoin. She grew up in South Sioux, graduating from South Sioux City High School in 1949. She continued her education at Wayne State College. Betty married Lester Barnes June 3 , 1950. She later married Robert O'Neill on January 25 , 1983. Over the years, Betty worked as head of the Selective Service during the Vietnam War, was a Realtor, the Dakota County Assessor for 25 years and a Dakota County Commissioner for 5 years. Betty was a politician and loved to dance. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Survivors include her husband, Robert O'Neill of South Sioux City, NE; son, Ronald (Patty) Barnes of South Sioux City, NE; daughter, Valerie (John) Danielson of Dakota Dunes, SD; step-son, Kelly (Etta) O'Neill of Belle Plaine, MN; 5 grandchildren, Brandon Danielson, Tiffani Cain, Jake Danielson, Travis Barnes and Justin Barnes; 11 great-great grandchildren; Payton, Garrett, Isabelle, Sawyer, Keagan, Kadyn, Ashlie, Zoe, Madison, TayLeigh, and Avery; a brother, Randy (Linda) DeRoin of Sioux City, IA; and her beloved poodle, Baby. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Tasha Alissa Danielson. "Love you and miss you"
