Bill was born on January 28,1936, in rural Waterbury, Nebraska to Roy and Leona (Brownell) Gotch and grew up in Allen, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from Allen High School in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957 with friends from Allen. Once Bill returned from the Navy, he farmed with his family. He married Myrna Faye Osbahr on May 28,1960 and they were married for 64 years. They have three sons.
Bill held various jobs throughout his life. He farmed from 1960-1974. He had several positions at the Farmers Co-Op in Allen, NE, and eventually became the manager at the Farmers Co-Op, until 1983. He and Myrna spent a brief period in California and when the family began to grow it brought them back to the area. They moved to Hurley, SD where he was the Assistant Manager at Terra. Bill & Myrna were shareholders in Siouxland Bank. Bill was never one to sit idle and so he held various positions as time went by.
Bill knew people everywhere he traveled and made friends easily. He was successful in all his many endeavors. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone and could fix anything needing repaired. Bill enjoyed cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, be it football or volleyball, playing cards, golfing with family, winning golf league & getting a “hole-in-one” at Covington Links Golf Couse, but his greatest joy was his family. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Myrna attended every event of their grandchildren and great grandchildren that was possible through the years. Family gatherings were such joy as he played Pinochle/Pitch cards, ate, laughed, and played or carried the youngest members of the family around. His grin and laugh were infectious to all.
