Bonnie Jean Buhr, age 85, of Ponca, Nebraska passed away on Sunday March 20, 2016 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of Siouxland.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday March 25, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca with Pastor Peter Speiser officiating, with interment following in the Ponca City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Mohr Funeral Home of Ponca is in charge ofarrangements.Bonnie was born near Ponca, Nebraska on March 3, 1931, the daughter of Martin and Wilhelmina (Ehmke) Rahn. She attended Ponca Community Schools graduating with the class of 1948. She was united in marriage with John Buhr on September 6, 1953 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca.Bonnie attended Wayne State College and received her teaching degree. She spent over 30 years in the classroom teaching at Oakland, Nebraska; St. Michael's School in South Sioux City, Willis, and Ponca. She served as a substitute teacher for many years until November of 2014 at the age of 83. She loved teaching and it was her passion in life.Bonnie was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she served on many committees and volunteered her time in many different capacities. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.Her life and memories will always be remembered by her family which includes her husband, John of Ponca; her daughter, Joy Myers and her husband, Mark of Grand Island, NE.; her son, Brian Buhr and his wife, Connie of McCook, NE.; and her daughter, Marti Blackstock and her husband, Phil of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren: Christopher Myers, Bryce Buhr, Abbey Grace Blackstock, and Christian Blackstock; her two great grandchildren, Olivia Myers and Carter Myers; and a sister, Julie (Rahn) Wright and her husband, Johnny of Princeton, KY.Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Richard Rahn.
