Brian David Murphy, 59, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 19, 2021.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 26, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Chuck Wolff officiating. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Brian was born January 19, 1962 in Sioux City, the son of George B. Murphy II and Erma (Kahler) Murphy. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and attended Westmar University in Le Mars and graduated with his Police Science degree from WITCC in 1983. Brian married Teresa Brus on August 27, 1988 in Jacksonville, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born. The couple later divorced.

Brian was a police officer in Sloan, Iowa and then worked for the Sioux City Night Patrol. He worked at John Morrell for 20 plus years, having to retire early due to health issues. Brian enjoyed camping, sitting around a campfire with friends, and collecting Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica memorabilia.

Survivors include his sons: Matthew Murphy and Christopher Murphy of Akron, IA; siblings: George (Julie) Murphy of Sioux City, Karen Woodle of Pierson, IA, and Mike (Patty) Murphy of Moville, IA; ex-wife and caretaker Teresa Brus of Akron, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and his beloved dog Cooper.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog Mandy Sue.
