Bud was born on April 12, 1956 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Joseph “Bud” and Mary (Pauley) Allen. He grew up in and attended school in Onawa. He married Patsy Madsen and together they raised four children in the Castana area. The two later divorced.

On November 8, 2003, Bud married Ranae Weinrich at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Merrill.

Bud was an extremely hard worker who took pride in everything he did. He worked as a farmer and operated a sawmill with his family in Castana. However, his passion was driving truck, which he did for many years before starting his own company.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hinton.

Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a family man to his core, and they meant the world to him.
