Butch Tomoson

Victor "Butch" Tomoson, 73 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on May 21, at his residence surrounded by his family.Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home, 1431 W 29th Street in South Sioux City, with the eulogy performed by Dan Olson and military rites by the South Sioux City American Legion Post #307. Visitation with the family present will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of the service at the funeral home.Butch was born on March 15, 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa; he was the son of Louis Tomoson and Viola (Dolly) Kruse. He grew up running around Riverside with his good friend Fuzz Hoover eventually settling in South Sioux City where he lived for over 50 years. In 1960 Butch joined the Navy serving at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served 4 years and was released in 1966. He married Sandra Lee Luft on June 23, 1962 in South Sioux City. Butch and Sam had three boys, Mike, Pat and Brian. In the early days Butch worked at IBP and several other packing houses before working at Aramark Uniform Services for 20 years before retiring in 2004. Butch loved his family and his longtime furry companions Annie then Dixie after Annie passed. He was very proud of his boys and when they were in school he loved to go to all of their sporting events taking pictures whenever he could. Butch truly loved life and had many hobbies including his computer, HAM radio, woodworking, bow hunting, wood carving, riding his motorcycle and he especially loved camping and fishing. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours on the Missouri River with his late father-in-law Bud Luft, and his lifelong friend Buddy Parker.Butch was a proud member of the Order of Elks Lodge #112 of Sioux City where he had many friends which he cared about deeply. He also made several lifetime friendships as a result of his time on bow hunting forums. Butch taught all of his boys how to hunt, fish and navigate the Missouri River along with many other outdoor skills. When the boys left home Butch and Sam bought a boat and camper and spent many hours camping and fishing spending lots of time at Ft. Randall, SD. Later in life he loved spending time on "The Hill" in Ponca, NE overlooking the Missouri River taking his grandkids there teaching them the names of the different birds that visited. His grandkids were his pride and joy.Survivors include his wife Sam Tomoson of South Sioux City; sons, Mike Tomoson of South Sioux City, Pat & Janelle (Mayes) Tomoson of Moville, IA and Brian & Gina (Book) Tomoson of Sgt. Bluff, IA; grandchildren, Trevor and Erin Tomoson of Moville, IA and Shelby and Bret Tomoson of Sgt. Bluff, IA; and half-sister, Linda (Terry) Gorham of Yankton, SD.
