Calvin E. Veach, 96 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully from complications of COVID on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Sunrise Retirement. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Todd Schlitter officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. Family requests masks be worn. Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community, Wesley United Methodist Church, Siouxland Humane Society, or Hospice of Siouxland.
Calvin was born August 18, 1925 to Elva (Casey) Veach and Earl Veach in West Des Moines, Iowa. He, and his 6 siblings, were raised on a farm along the Raccoon River. Calvin graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines and was drafted into the US Army Air Corps. He was trained as a ball turret gunner on the B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber.
Calvin married Alice Purdy on September 10, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1957, they moved to Sioux City, where Cal was an installer/shop foreman for Sioux City Tent and Awning (Mullin Manufacturing) until he retired in 1995.
In his spare time, Cal loved gardening and was well known for his beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. He had a woodworking/craft business that he kept busy with until he moved to the apartment in 2013. Cal was a huge animal lover and loved his many pets over the years.
Calvin is survived by his daughters Vickie (Randy) Williams and Linda (Dave) Carruthers; grandchildren Emily (Jordan) Harlow and Katie Carruthers; great-grandchildren Caleb and Hazel Harlow; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Miss Kitty.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice in 2013, and his 6 siblings.
