Carmen L. Groth, 92, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, IA.
Private services will be held at the family’s request. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Carmen, the eldest daughter of Frank and Frances (Schumacher) Vogelzang, was born October 6, 1929 in Chatsworth, IA. In 1944, the family moved to Sioux City and Carmen graduated from Central High School in 1947.
In 1947, Carmen married Henry E. “Gene” Groth and this union was blessed with one daughter, Sherry.
Carmen will be remembered for her love of life. She had a deep love of family and loved horses and animals. She loved growing up on the farm in Chatsworth where she could be found outdoors with her father and the work horses and milking the cows. She had many friends and was always the “life of the party”.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Reckas of Zionsville, IN; brother, Frank H. Vogelzang of Sioux City; sisters: Joyce Gronemeyer and Mary Lou Ross, both of Le Mars; grandson, Zachary Reckas of Zionsville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elinor (Dennis) Martin; brothers-in-law: Wayne Gronemeyer and Curtis Ross; son-in-law, Manny Reckas; grandson, Nicholas Reckas; and her special friend and high school sweetheart, Clair Boyd.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to all the staff at Good Samaritan in Le Mars for their care and compassion, and to Hospice of Siouxland. And thank you to a special niece, Teri, and her husband, Henry Herrig, who always made sure to visit and put bird seed in her feeder.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Le Mars, Iowa or to any charity of your choosing.
