Carold was born on August 15, 1932 in rural Thompson, Iowa, the son of Albert and Bertha (Myre) Dahl. Carold grew up in rural Thompson, Iowa on the family farm, where he enjoyed the farm life, discovering, and activities like riding his pony Jiggs. A life long learner, he started his formal education in a one room country school and graduated from from Thompson High School in 1950. After graduation Carold farmed for 3 years on the home place with his brother Arnold. His time farming ended upon his enlistment in the US Air Force where he served from 1953-1957. In the fall of 1957 he enrolled at Iowa State University to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. As an Iowa State Graduate, in 1961, Carold started his career with Iowa Public Service in Storm Lake, IA, transferring to Sioux City in 1967. He retired in October of 1995 after a distinguished career with IPS which later became Mid American Energy. After his retirement he continued to serve Mid American Energy as a consultant.
On June 20, 1959 Carold was united in marriage with Marguerite Freeseman at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Together they had four children, Jeffrey, David, Cheryl and Michele.
Carold loved to learn about everything, there were very few projects be it for his kids, grandkids, friends, household, or church that he wasn’t afraid to tackle. He also loved to fish, boat, and patiently teach his children (& others) everything from math, to waterskiing, to how to build or repair anything. The list continues with woodworking, travel, avid Iowa State Cyclone fan, and playing cards. All of this was done with great attention to detail but unbelievable kindness and patience.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marguerite; sons: Jeffrey (Rhonda) of Westfield, Iowa and David of Sioux City; daughters: Cheryl (John) of Pella Iowa and Michele (Kevin) of Webster City, Iowa. Grandchildren: Jaci (Corey) Erickson, Shannon Dahl, Theron Bouchie, Adam & Nathan Carey, and Cassidy & Tyler Bultena, Sister in-law Lillian Dahl; Brother in-law Wilbert (Paula) Freeseman. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Carold was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Bertha (Myre) Dahl; sisters Myrtle Dahl & Cora (Lester) Lura; and brother Arnold Dahl.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Hospice of Siouxland and Countryside Health Center for their care during the last months of Carold’s life.
