Carole J. Andrew

October 19, 1942 — November 15, 2021

Carole Jean Andrew, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She suffered a year-long battle with lung cancer, complicated by the severe aftereffects of COVID-19. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 22, at 11:00 a.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, Pastor B.J. Van Kalsbeek officiating.  A visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Carole was born on October 19, 1942, in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Troy and Betty (Fennell) Graves.  When she was four years old, her mother remarried Phil Williams.  Phil adopted Carole and her sister Sylvia.  Carole attended various schools growing up due to her father being in the military. She attended Central High School in Sioux City but graduated from Durango High School in Texas in 1961.           On April 12, 1962, Carole married Thomas L. Macfarlane.  To this union four children were born: Greg, Julie, Mark, and Molly.

Carole loved watching her children participate in sports and was a Little League coach at Headid Park for several years.  She loved spending time with her family on summer weekends out at McCook Lake soaking up the sun, waterskiing, and boating.

Carole held several jobs while living in Sioux City. She was an executive in the sales department for KTIV for several years when she was offered a job in Le Mars as an executive at a local radio station. She and her business partner decided to open their own advertising agency in Sioux City called Mach II Advertising.

On May 2, 1984, Carole married the love of her life, George W. “Andy” Andrew.  Together, the couple moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1985, where they owned and operated their neighborhood bar, The Great Escape, for 23 years.  During their years in Arizona, Carole and Andy loved spending time with their dear friends.  They enjoyed four-wheeling, hiking, camping, star gazing, and exploring all the diversities of beautiful Arizona.  The couple returned to Sioux City in 2008, to be closer to family.  Andy passed away in July of 2018.

Carole had such beauty and grace, and an infectious personality, including wit, charm, and a phenomenal sense of humor.  Her grandchildren always brought a smile to her face.  Carole will be missed by all who loved her and always live in their hearts.

Carole is survived by her son, Greg (Chastity) Macfarlane of Beaufort, South Carolina, daughter, Julie (Tony) Albright of Sioux City, son Mark (Susan) Macfarlane of Wynstone, SD, and daughter Molly Brower (Steve Thompson) of Sioux City; five stepdaughters, Debra Conley of Sioux City, Julie (Russell) Hinrichsen Dyke of Topeka, Kansas, Lori Gurnsey of Jacksonville, Florida, Paige (Casey) Van Cleave of Topeka, Kansas, and Mary Jo Andrew of Granbury, Texas.  She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Her sister, Sylvia Oothoudt of McCook Lake, SD, sister and best friend Terry Williams (Butch Kamradt) of Sioux City, and brother Michael (Julie) Williams of South Dakota and any many nieces and nephews. Her special critter friends, Gretchen, Olivia and Felix.
