Catherine "Cathie" P. Eriksen

Catherine "Cathie" P. Eriksen, 81, of South Sioux City, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Bickford Assisted Living in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE with Father David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Cathie was born on August 21, 1935 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of John and Mary (Heenan) Heeney. She graduated from high school in Hubbard, NE in 1954. She married Leo "Squeek" Eriksen on January 12, 1957 in Hubbard, NE. She was a bank teller in Lincoln, Chicago and Alaska, worked at the Stock Yards in Sioux City, IA, at MCI, Luken Memorials and Mohr Funeral Home. She also worked as a bookkeeper and VP for their family business, Nebraska Steel Erectors, Inc. in South Sioux City, NE.Cathie was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and served as circle captain on St. Michael's Altar Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Hubbard/Jackson American Legion Auxiliary Post #175, a board member for Heartland Counseling, Hospice of Siouxland volunteer, and she volunteered at the soup kitchen. Cathie enjoyed volunteering and dedicated her life to the church and helping others. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.Survivors include her daughters, Mary Karleen (Joe) Knowles of Sioux City, IA and Teresa Ann Eriksen of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Collin Knowles of South Sioux City, NE, Chantalle (Kelly) Galbraith of Blair, NE and Trevor (Tara) Knowles of South Sioux City, NE; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ellen Graham of Des Moines, IA; and several nieces and nephews.Cathie was preceded in death by her husband Leo "Squeek" on May 17, 1997; her parents, John and Mary Heeney; brother and sister-in-law, John "Jack" (Edna) Heeney; brother, Leo Heeney; a baby sister, Margaret Ann; brother-in-law, Lawrence "Cap" Graham; nephew, Tom Graham; niece, Deanna Heeney; and special family friend, Marita Ortner.
