Cecilia “Cece” Hutton, 92, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at a local care facility.
Due to Covid-19, no services are planned at this time and a family graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences can be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Cece was born April 24, 1928 on a farm in Plymouth County, she was the daughter of John and Agnes (McLaughlin) Geary. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1946. On May 20, 1946, she married Cecil “Gene” Hutton in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union, 1 daughter was born. Gene preceded Cece in death on February 13, 2012. The couple lived in Indiana briefly before settling in Sioux City. Cece was a homemaker until 1982 when she began making donuts for Sunshine Market on Morningside Avenue until 1990.
Cece was a member of Siouxland Senior Center and the Morningside Golden Age Club. She volunteered with RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program), American Legion Auxiliary, and the Senior Center Stop and Stop Craft Store. She loved to knit and devoted much of her time knitting over 1000 baby caps for St. Luke’s Hospital and several items for the Stop and Shop Craft Store. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle.
Those left to honor her memory is her daughter Michele “Micki” Foster and her husband Rick of Sioux City; grandchildren Molli Swearingen and her husband Scott of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Mike Murphy and his wife April of Canyon, TX; great-grandchildren Dylan, Charlie, Caleb Swearingen, and Ireland Murphy; brother Joseph Geary and his wife Marjean of Minneapolis, MN; sisters Margaret Grosenheider and Aggie Thelen of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Vincent, Bernard, Richard, Leo Geary, and sister Rosemary Leber.
