In Sioux City, Iowa, on August 11, 1949, the funny and gregarious Charles William Striegel (Charlie) was born. Son of Joyce and Charlie A. Striegel and brother to Peggy, Charlie spent his childhood gardening with his dad and playing outside with his friends. He was a friend to everyone and was interested in genuinely connecting with whomever he met. Charlie enjoyed a long life of loving big and appreciating life’s simple joys. He was always teasing others and trying to embarrass his family and friends. Charlie was ceaselessly optimistic and possessed an effortless and uncanny ability to forever see the beauty and joy in life. Although he faced many health challenges in his later years, he maintained a joyful heart and a jovial disposition without fail right up to the end. Charlie will always be remembered as one who made everyone laugh loud and often, who chose to live life without complaint, and who always saw the positive in the world and all around him. As said best by one of his dearest friends, “Charlie didn’t just see the cup as half full, he saw it as all the way full at all times.” His cheerful spirit was a gift to all.

Charlie attended North Jr. and Central High School where he met so many of his life-long friends, those who he very genuinely referred to as his family and with whom he shared all of life’s joys and sorrows. Charlie shared many laughs and created many treasured memories with his buddies on fishing trips in Canada, hunting excursions, golfing, playing on the farm and through daily shenanigans. His friends describe him as the life of the party and someone who would do absolutely anything for his friends. Charlie would frequently comment on how fortunate he was to have spent his years surrounded by such incredible friends and family; without a doubt, he counted those precious relationships as one of life’s greatest blessings.

In 1971 Charlie met his wife, Michaeleen Rogers (Mickey) on a blind date that was set up through their mutual friends. Charlie brought spice and vinegar to both Mickey’s world and to her entire family. Unsurprisingly, he immediately wooed her with his fun-loving and outgoing nature and his ability to keep her laughing. Together they enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like camping, taking drives, and sitting in their backyard observing nature. Charlie and Mickey had two children, Eric Striegel (1976) and Alyson Cardwell (1979). Charlie had many roles but being a father brought him the most honor and joy. His favorite memories were times spent with his family on camping trips, family vacations to the Black Hills, and enjoying the magic of Christmas. Charlie was also a very proud grandpa to Maizy Jo and Finn Cardwell. He was always making them laugh and was their absolute biggest fan.

Charlie started his working career with his dad at Beane Plumbing. He spent the remaining 30 plus years working at Dennis Supply Company, his home away from home, where he greatly enjoyed the company of all his co-workers.

During his final days here on earth, Charlie began looking for the perfect campsite on the other side….one with snow-capped mountains, a beautiful stream and humming birds. This vision perfectly captures the essence of Charlie Striegel. It is at this magical campsite where we can all envision him resting peacefully, free of all bodily pains, enjoying what he loves most and in the loving company of all of his family and friends who passed away before him.

Though Charlie will be missed greatly, he will live on forever in our hearts. We will feel him with us the most when sharing laughs, connecting with family and friends, listening to music, and enjoying nature. May you rest peacefully in your beautiful campsite, Charlie, and may we all love bigger and laugh harder in your honor.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the amazingly, big-hearted staff members at Accura who took such great care of Charlie in his final year. They nourished him with love and laughs and there was no place he would have rather been if he couldn’t be at home with his family. We couldn’t be more grateful.

Charlie W. Striegel is survived by his wife (Mickey Striegel), his son (Eric Striegel), his daughter (Alyson Cardwell), his son-in-law (Travis Cardwell), and his two grandchildren (Maizy Jo and Finn Cardwell).

He was preceded in death by his mother (Joyce Striegel), his father (Charles A. Striegel) and his sister (Peggy Deaton).
