Connie Jeane Newman November 22, 1943 - September 28, 2023

Connie Jeane Newman, age 79, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023.  Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer, Nebraska with Vicar David Hawkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Omaha Valley Cemetery in Rural Homer.  Visitation will be on Monday, October 2nd at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family present starting at 5:00 p.m.  Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Connie was born in Homer, NE to John and Geneva (Georgesen) VanCleave and graduated from Homer High School.  She met her husband, Raymond Newman,  when he came to the Homer High School as a first year teacher.  They were married December 27, 1965. Connie worked for Zenith, the Homer Lumber Yard, and worked at Homer Community School as head cook for 24 years  before retiring.  Connie was very community minded and was actively involved in activities at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Homer Community School, and other social organizations; she enjoyed helping others.

 Her retirement years were golden. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, sudoku, bird watching, spending time with family, and reading about friends on Facebook.  

Connie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva VanCleave, parents in-law, Virgil and Marie Newman, and brother-in-law, Jerry Newman.

Connie is survived by her husband, Raymond and her two children, Sheila (Jon) Hemmings of Columbus, Georgia, and Craig Newman of South Sioux City, NE, grand daughter, Anya Polomis,  brother and sister in-laws, Mike of Nevada, Mark and Julie Newman of Nebraska, and Connie Newman of Texas.
