Dale Dean Rude

December 29, 1928 — September 6, 2024

Sioux City, Iowa

Dale Dean Rude, 95, passed away on September 6, 2024, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born on December 29, 1928, in Pocahontas, Iowa to Bert E. and Emma (Nieman) Rude. Dale grew up on the family farm near Pocahontas and attended a small country school from 1st through 6th grade before attending Pocahontas Schools where he graduated in 1946.

On March 12, 1950, Dale was united in marriage to Marilou (Gaes) in Storm Lake, Iowa and this union was blessed with two daughters.

Dale exemplified commitment and diligence throughout his career, serving as a plant superintendent at I.P.S. (now MidAmerican Energy) for 42 years before retiring in 1989. His work ethic was matched only by his dedication to his country, having faithfully served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, and receiving an honorable discharge.

A person often described as always on the go, Dale found joy in various activities and interests. He was a passionate supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, loved to fish for walleye in South Dakota and Canada, and cherished morning coffee with his friends. He was a long-standing member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Dale’s hobbies included bowling, where he distinguished himself by participating in numerous tournaments across the nation, including 26 National ABC Tournaments. His skill was evident, as he achieved two perfect 300 games and was honored with induction into the Sioux City Bowling Hall of Fame in 1990.

Dale is survived by his two daughters, Diane May of Ferndale, WA and Robin Redmond of Winston, OR; one granddaughter, Lauren (Jack) Schramer of Bellingham, WA; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Owen; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Rude of Pocahontas, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marilou; and two brothers, Bryon (Margaret) Rude and Duane (Jean) Rude.

Funeral services for Dale will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Pastor David Halaas officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
