Danny Lee (Dan) Comstock, 72, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery in rural Ponca, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M., a rosary at 6:45 P.M. and prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Dan was born November 13, 1941 in Ponca, NE to Marvin Comstock and Helen (Jones) Comstock-Osbahr. He grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska. From a young age Dan enjoyed the outdoors spending time hunting, fishing, playing baseball, basketball, football, and running track. Dan attended the Allen school system until his senior year. He transferred to the Waterbury school system where he met his childhood sweetheart who became his bride. Dan married Susan Marx June 16th, 1962 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, Nebraska. The couple moved to Sioux City and quickly began raising a family. Dan's primary goal was to support his family. He began working for Dakota County driving a gravel truck. He found his career when he started working at NuWay Drug calling on grocery stores. As NuWay changed hands over the years Dan remained. He enjoyed all the people he met while traveling the tri-state area calling on his customers. Dan moved his family to South Sioux City, Nebraska and became an active part of the community. He passed his love of sports on to his children and spent many years serving as their coach and trainer. Throughout his life he remained an avid outdoorsman. He passed his love of hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. Dan was committed to volunteerism. He served on the South Sioux City Fire Department for 42 years. He was recently named First Assistant Fire Chief; an accomplishment he was really proud of. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling the US and world with Sue. They were able to visit the majority of the State and National parks and take trips to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, South America, Kenya, and Tanzania. Dan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue and five children: Danette (Dave) Kenagy of Sioux City, IA; Cindy Hackney (Steve Hopkins) of Elk Point, SD; Mark (Laura) Comstock of Lexington, SC; Scott (Roni) Comstock of South Sioux City, NE; and Kristen (fiance Chad Hankins) of Colorado Springs, CO. Additional survivors include his Mother and three brothers: Ron (Harriet) Comstock; Norm (Pat) Comstock; both of South Sioux City, NE; and Bob (Becky) Comstock of Rapid City, SD. Dan's grandchildren include Jessica Kenagy, Keith (Brigette) Kenagy, Brian Kenagy, Casey Hackney, Kari Hackney, Megan (John) Dorroh, Trev Comstock, Brennan Comstock, Jordan Comstock, and Bricelyn Comstock. Dan is also survived by ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Father and Niece Rhonda Comstock.
