Dan S. Watson (78), of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at a local hospital following a brief illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Mater Dei Parish, Church of the Nativity, with Father Bradley Pelzel as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Wednesday, November 3rd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with family present at 6:00 p.m. There will be a rosary recited at 6:30 P.M. and a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Dan was born on February 23, 1943, in Sioux City to Samuel and Josephine (Graffeo) Watson. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1961, where he was a record-holding sprinter in track. Dan graduated from Morningside College. He worked at the YMCA in Iowa and Louisiana before returning to Iowa, where he worked as a Juvenile Court Service Officer for the Third Judicial District.
Dan married Marcia Huisenga on April 22, 1972, in Sioux City. He was a member of Church of the Nativity, where he also volunteered. He was an avid motorcycle rider and a member of the BMW Riders. Dan was a fourth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, volunteered at the Carmelite Monastery, and enjoyed riding horses, lifting weights, and taking family vacations.
Dan is survived by his wife Marcia Watson of Sioux City; daughters Kim Watson (Randy Groetken) of Dakota City, Nebraska, and Lisa Watson of Sioux City, Iowa; brother Lynn Watson of Sioux City, Iowa; and sister JoAnn Sorensen (Randy) of Sioux City, Iowa.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Nanette Watson Krentel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery.
