March 15, 1942 — February 13, 2022

Daniel J. Conway III, 79, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  A memorial mass will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Holy Cross Parish St. Michael.  To view the service online please visit https://www.facebook.com/holycrossparishsc/live/ or https://holycrosssc.org/daniel-conway-funeral.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time.  The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

Daniel was born the son of Daniel (Pat) Jr. and Francena (Teeny) E. (Morris) Conway, on March 15, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a proud Immaculate Conception attendee and remembered the fight song almost his whole life. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1960 where he excelled in sports and academics. This eventually led him to play football at the University of South Dakota, where he had many fond memories and friends.

He proudly served his country in the beginning of the Vietnam war. He had a great respect for those who served. On almost any given day you could find him in his favorite recliner watching the history channel or old war movies. This led to an almost infallible knowledge on historical dates, which we often liked to challenge him on. But, he was hardly inactive, he enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and biking. He enjoyed anything that included friends, family, fun and perhaps an adult beverage.

When he wasn’t making people laugh, he was working to make this world a little better. He dedicated his life to helping troubled youth. His ability to create innovative programs helped hundreds of youth throughout his time, and were utilized throughout the state of Iowa.

His personality was so big he was unforgettable to anyone who met him. He will be forever missed by those who knew him and loved him. Especially his wife, Rose (Roemen).  Rose had never met anyone like Dan when he charmed his way into her life during their time at Briar Cliff College. They would get married on June 8th, 1968 and share nearly 54 years together. They raised three children, traveled the world, and stood by each other until his last breath. The center of his life was his family.  Nothing came before his children and his grandchildren.

He volunteered his time with hospice and served as a eucharistic minister during his retirement in Sun City, Arizona.  His faith was very important to him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice or Visiting Angels.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Rose Conway of Sioux City; children, Daniel J. Conway IV of Somerset, Wisconsin, Teresa Conway of Harlan, Iowa, and Angela (Justin) Conway of Sioux City; siblings, Denny Conway, Daphne (Jim) Redmond, and David (Lori) Conway and sister-in-law, Barb Conway; 11 grandchildren Chauncey, Danielle, Violet, Conner, Serena, Irelynn, Lida, Nessa, Reilly, Ian, and Brody and 1 great-grandchild Kyler.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dwight.
