Daniel Gene Dawdy, 77, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at a local hospital.
A Family Graveside with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery with the United States Army Reserve and American Legion in attendance.
Dan was born June 24, 1945 in Sioux City, the son of Richard Floyd Dawdy and Mary Elizabeth (Green) Dawdy. He served in the Army for almost six years, two years in the active military and four years in the Guard. He was a proud Veteran that served over eight months in Vietnam and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with Artillary and Combat Awards. He loved working on computers, was an avid reader and book collector, and self taught guitar player. Dan enjoyed long walks, often walking ten miles a day.
Survivors include his siblings Lori Potts, Allen (Debbie) Dawdy, Janice (Ron) Sindelar, and Penny Engel; and several nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Maria Dawdy, brother Robert Dawdy, and two brother-in-laws: Russell Potts and Jerry Engel.
Pallbearers will be Allan Dawdy, Cody Potts, Ron Sindelar, Mike Sindelar, Tony Frazee, and Ian Frazee.
