Daniel L. Nice, 77, of South Sioux City, NE passed away at his residence, while surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 29, 2012.Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Chaplain Ron Pietz officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 P.M. prior to the service.Daniel was born on June 18, 1935 in White Earth, North Dakota, the son of Daniel M. and Edna M. (LaBar) Nice. The family moved to Sioux City, IA, where he attended school. He began working for FIMCO at an early age and worked his way up to sales manager, working there for at least 25 years and then went into his passion, which was farming. After retirement, he delivered flowers for Hy-Vee. Daniel married Marlene Joyce Kruse in 1953 and were blessed with three sons. He later married Patricia Flanagan in September, 1975.He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed restoring old cars, golfing, hunting, fishing, water sports and the Nebraska Huskers. He worked very hard for his family and enjoyed them immensely. He felt his greatest accomplishment was his family.Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Patricia "Buttons" Nice of South Sioux City, NE; children, Daniel "Heavy Duty" (Ann) Nice, and daughter, Melissa, of South Sioux City, NE, Darwin (Judy) Nice, and son, Derick of Allen, NE, Deven (Michelle) Nice, and son, Brandon of Fergus Falls, MN, Kathy "Sis" Mildenstein, children, Amber, April and Zachary and life mate, Kent Akins, of Dakota City, NE, Daniel James "DJ" (Dawn) Nice, and sons, Spencer and Peirce of Parrish, FL, Matthew (Katie) Nice, and children, Winni and Calvin of Sioux Center, IA; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred "Sis" Nice of Ames, IA; brother, Butch (Vicki) Nice of Hill City, SD; sister, Lynn Lukowicz of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Edna Nice; 1 sister, Louise Elsner; and 1 brother, William Nice.The family would like to give special thanks to all the Hospice nurses that cared for Dan, and also a special thanks to his primary caregiver, Jodi.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
