Darrel Lee Lieber, 85, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Morningside Lutheran Church. Darrel, the son of Ernest and Hildred Lieber, was born on December 31, 1937, in Emerson, Nebraska. He graduated from Waterbury High School in Waterbury, Nebraska.
On December 9, 1978 he married Sue Carol Luther in Ponca, Nebraska.
He worked for O’Neill Grain, co-owned Lieber Conoco, managed So. Sioux Feed & Supply, owned Lieber Steel & Erection, was plant manager of Boyer Valley Fertilizer, and retired as a sales representative for United Horticultural & Supply.
Darrel was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He had been a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Sertoma, Lions Club, Optimist Club of So. Sioux City, and worked at the Soup Kitchen and various projects for the Habitat for Humanity.
Darrel and his wife, Sue, enjoyed traveling, most of it in their motor home. He was fortunate to visit all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, many European and Scandinavian countries, and take cruises to various areas. In later years, he spent many winters in Arizona. At home, he delighted in helping his neighbors and giving away produce from his garden. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and football, especially watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers; he also loved attending the activities of his children and grandchildren.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue; daughter, Jill Schubauer (Max); son, Craig Lieber (Sarah); and step-daughter, Melissa Masmar (David Nathlich); brother, Del Lieber; sister, Laveta Bradley; and brother-in-law, Don Luther (Robin); his nine grandchildren: Cory Dixon; Taylor Schubauer; Aiden, Denairic, Cavvan, and Brydd Lieber. Also left to cherish his memory are many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, LeAnn Miller; son-in-law, Mike Miller; and grandchildren: Zoey Miller and Miles Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
