Darrell Lee “Joe” Amick, 81, of Sioux City passed away on August 20, 2022, at his family home surrounded by his family. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Darrell was born on April 7, 1941, the son of Annie Lowell. He grew up in the Walthill/South Sioux City area. He joined the Air Force in 1958, and served until 1962. Soon after returning to South Sioux City, he got a job with Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked as an engineer for 41 years.
Darrell married Roberta Coover on September 24, 1967. Roberta passed away on May 12, 2012.
Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel, especially with his wife to Las Vegas. He liked playing cards and camping with his family. He also looked forward to the “cheap movie day” every Tuesday. Wednesdays were his gambling day.
His passion was golf; he golfed on three different leagues for many years. He loved to watch sports on TV, with golf and football being some of his favorites. He was a big Green Bay Packers fan. Darrell had an infectious laugh that will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children: Roger (Donnette) Amick, Jerri (Chris) Mace, and Darin (Jamie) Amick; grandchildren: Jerod Hollinger, Jayden Mace, Jordyn Mace, Nicole (Geoff) Stusse, Justin Amick, Christiaan Amick, Taylon Amick, and Alexa Amick; great-grandchild, Regan Stusse; sisters: Frances Lowell and Lois (Richard) Decoteau; brothers, Larry (Phyllis) Stokes and Don Tighe; his in-laws: Florence Palmer, Shirley (Jack) Stidd, Linda (George) Howell, and Kay Lowell; along with many nieces and nephews.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Amick; mother, Annie Lowell; mother-in-law, Frances Coover; brothers: Jim Lowell and Russell Lowell; nephew, Ben Lowell; niece, Brenda Lowell; brothers-in-law: Bill Palmer, Robert Coover, Mark Coover, and Roger Comstock; and a sister-in-law, Norma Comstock.
