David James “Dave” Mogensen, 61 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City from corona virus related complications. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Pastor Gary Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation, with family present will be one hour prior to services on Friday morning. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials, in Dave’s name, be offered to The Children’s Miracle Network.
Dave was born on April 6, 1960 to Gene and Shirlee (McClary) Mogensen. Following high school graduation, Dave began his career in farming, a life-long passion. He married LouAnn Mulvihill on September 4, 1993 in Sioux City, to which union, one son Dane was born.
Dave enjoyed drag racing, and anything to do with Kawasaki Motorcycles, including drag racing his own all around the Midwest and Southern regions in the IDBA (International Drag Bike Association). Dave was a Track Champion in Marion, South Dakota in 1983. He enjoyed “wrenching” in his shop working to make machines faster and louder. Dave loved family, and spending vacations in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Dave is survived by his wife LouAnn of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; son Dane Mogensen of Sioux City, Iowa; sister Cherie Mogensen of Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law Jane Mogensen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces and nephews Joel (Caitlyn) Mogensen, Becky (Austin) Valencia, Jacob Mogensen, and Aimee Vondrak.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis Mogensen in September of 2020, and best friends Patrick Hirschman and Scoot Stolen.
