David E. Perkins, 70, of South Sioux City, NE, formerly of Waterbury, NE passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital.Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Gene Stockton of Heartland Community Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M., prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Eastview Cemetery in rural Allen, NE.David was born on September 30, 1945 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Ernest and Lavina (Noe) Perkins. He attended school at Oakdale (a small country school near his home in Waterbury). He finished school at Emerson, NE. He then moved to Sioux City where he lived and worked for several years. He was employed at Wigwam Grill and Milwaukee Wiener House until his health deteriorated and he moved to assisted living at Regency Square in South Sioux City, where he remained until his death.David was very active in his church and a devout Christian. He had many musical talents and was a wonderful singer. He sang at many events throughout the community. He led singing for several years at the little church in Waterbury that he attended since childhood. David won several metals in the Special Olympics and was very proud of his bowling skills, and the fact that he beat his family when they all went bowling with him.He loved his family, especially his niece, Trecy and nephews, Brad and Chad. He was so proud to be an uncle, great-uncle, and recently became a great-great uncle. He loved to tell stories about the mischief he and his brother, Boyce would get into when he was growing up. He was an avid Husker fan, watched every game and decorated his room at Regency with anything Nebraska.David is survived by a brother, Boyce (Jean) of Waterbury, NE; nephews, Brad (Cheryl) of Ponca, NE and Chad (Lisa) of Waterloo, NE; a niece, Trecy Mitchell of Waterbury, NE; also many great-nieces and great-nephews, Cody (Kaleigh) of N. Soo City, SD, Shaeli of Elk City, NE, Katie and Colby of Waterloo, NE, Jordan of Lincoln, NE, Tanner of Ponca, NE and Zach Mitchell and his fiance, Sam and son, great-great nephew, Maxon of Allen, NE.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lavina Perkins.
