David R. Watchorn

David R. Watchorn, 92, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca, NE.Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca City Cemetery with military rites by the Ponca American Legion Post #117. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.David was born on February 14, 1923 in North Bend, NE, the son of Walter and Pearl (Griffith) Watchorn. He graduated from Ponca High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy from July 2, 1943 to April 13, 1946. David married Belva Colson in Ponca on November 11, 1946. They had two sons, David and Terry, lived and farmed in the Ponca and Martinsburg areas, and moved into Ponca in the early 1960's. David also worked for Schram Fertilizer.He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, and the Ponca American Legion Post #117. He was also a member of the Dixon County Noxious Weed Board for thirty-six years. David enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, coaching baseball, and drinking coffee with his friends. He and Belva visited all the states in their travels, went on several cruises and numerous bus tours.Survivors include his sons, David C. Watchorn and his wife Carol of Ponca and Terry Watchorn and his wife Carol of Sioux City, IA; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; a brother, Don Watchorn in Fremont, NE; two sisters, Donna Eslick of Atlantic, IA and Darlene Adams of Kosciusko, MS; and many nieces and nephews.David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl Watchorn; his wife, Belva on January 12, 2014; a grandson, Douglas Watchorn; and a step-granddaughter, Trisha Madson.
