Dean Allen Haack, 90, of Sioux City, passed away July 10, 2022 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Halaas officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dean was born on December 11, 1931 in Marcus, Iowa to Elmer and Ethel (Ohlendorf) Haack. He attended school in Remsen, IA and graduated in 1950 from Remsen High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. After he was discharged, he attended Morningside College then went to work for a post office in Glendale, CA. Dean moved back to Remsen in 1959 and went to work for Sioux Tools in LeMars, IA. Dean went into the trucking business with his brother Duane, hauling steel products for Midwest Culvert of Sioux City and Adel. He was united in marriage to Nancy Hostad on November 26, 1959 on Thanksgiving Day at First Lutheran Church. Dean enjoyed reading Western novels, gardening, walking and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Nancy Haack, Sioux City, IA; daughter, Lesley (Neil) Bartholomew, Sioux City, IA; son, Calvin (Jana) Haack, Johnston, IA; 8 grandchildren: Rachel (Josh) Palmer, Kenny (Sarah) Bartholomew, Jessica Norton, Johanna (fiancée, Collin Hemann) Haack, Jocelyn Haack, Dylan (fiancé Mackenzie Phillips) Jones, Derek (fiancé, Brittany Martin) Jones and Dawson Jones; brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Hostad; and 2 great-grandchildren: Lucille Bartholomew and Dallas Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents along with his mother and father-in-law Margaret and Walter Hostad; and brothers: Duane, Norman, Rodney and Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Dean’s honor.
