Dennis Lee Hill, 77, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and ingenuity. Born on July 7, 1947, in Hawarden, Iowa, to John and Shirley (Vernon) Hill, Dennis lived a life marked by curiosity, service, and deep devotion to his family and faith.
A proud graduate of West Sioux Community School in 1966, Dennis went on to pursue his passion for technology, earning an engineering degree from DeVry Technology in Chicago, IL. His career began in broadcasting where his technical expertise and problem-solving skills shined. He later dedicated his talents to Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative, where he worked until his well-earned retirement.
On April 17, 1971, Dennis married the love of his life, Irene (Kumm), at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, Nebraska. Together, they built a beautiful life over 53 years of unwavering love and partnership. From their first home in Sioux City to their years in Le Mars and eventually returning to Sioux City for retirement, Dennis and Irene embraced every chapter with warmth and adventure.
A man of strong faith, Dennis was a dedicated member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where he found joy in serving others. Whether greeting fellow parishioners with his signature smile, ushering, or volunteering at the local food pantry, Dennis was always willing to lend a hand and brighten someone’s day.
Beyond his work and faith, Dennis had a lifelong passion for tinkering with electronics, a hobby that fueled his naturally inquisitive mind. He also found joy on the golf course, perfecting his swing and sharing laughs with friends. Traveling with Irene was another of his great joys, exploring new places and making memories along the way.
Dennis’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene Hill of Sioux City; his son, Chris Hill, and his wife, Tanya, along with their children, Brenna, Myiah, and Alex of Phoenix, AZ; and his daughter, Charity Aalbers, and her husband, Corey, with their son, Logan, of Norwalk, IA. He also leaves behind his brother, Ronald Hill of Phoenix, AZ, and a lifetime of cherished family & friends.
Those who knew Dennis will remember his sharp wit, generous heart, and the way he could fix just about anything. His presence will be deeply missed, but his love and wisdom will continue to guide those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A service to celebrate Dennis’s life will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 7, 2025, at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Morningside Lutheran Church. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Morningside Lutheran Church Food Pantry in his honor.
