Dian Jyll Boals, 86, of Dakota City passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, NE with Reverend Sandra Braasch officiating. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery. Dian was born March 23, 1936 in South Sioux City, the daughter of Edwin and Florence (Sweet) Morgan. She graduated from South Sioux City High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. Dian also attended the University of South Dakota. She married Robert “Bob” Boals on June 17, 1961 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City. To this union, three sons were born. Bob preceded Dian in death on December 16, 2017.
Dian was a high school teacher and taught in Cherokee and Sioux City, IA and also in South Sioux City and Homer, NE for 35 years. Her last teaching position was at Northeast Community College. Dian was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she taught ESL, was a mentor for confirmation students, and part of the Women’s Group. She was a member of the Eastern Star, NSEA, and donated garden space for the Dakota County Community Garden that aided the Dakota County Food Program. Dian enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons: Drew (Anne) Boals of Dakota City, NE and Wesley (Linda) Boals of McGregor, MN, and their son John; and brother Scott (Jean) Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, son Jedwin, brother Larry Morgan, and sister Judy Morgan.
