Dolores Ann Townley, 93, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at a local care center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 11, 2021 at Holy Cross Parish – St. Michael Catholic Church with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Due to COVID-19, masks are required and social distancing will be enforced. Those wishing to partake in the services may view a livestream on the Holy Cross Church website and Facebook page. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Dolores was born March 31, 1927 in Sioux City, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Helen M. (Meyer) Richter. She attended St. Boniface grade school and Cathedral high school, graduating in 1945. Dolores married Derrill Joseph Townley on October 12, 1946 in Sioux City. To this union, two children were born. Dolores worked at Leeds Pharmacy for many years. She enjoyed bowling and was on several bowling leagues. She and Derrill loved ballroom dancing and were members of a dance club. Dolores enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid card player with her mother, sisters, and nieces. Family was very important to Dolores, and she never missed a birthday with a special card. Dolores was a devout Catholic and a 74-year member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where she was active with the Altar Society and enjoyed her time on the funeral luncheon committee.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 74 years, Derrill Townley of Sioux City; children: Donald (Susan) Townley of Sioux City and Carol (Larry) Kindig of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Ted (Deena) Townley, Paul (Kerri) Townley, Amy (Nick) Bellenbaum, Matt (Wendy Briley) Kindig, and Becky (Brian) Cotton; great grandchildren: Lawson, Evan, Meredith, Lindsey, George, Abe, Maddie, Lucy, Claire, Henry, Brandon, Sammy, Aubree, Miles, Jaycey, Kynli, and Laynie; sister-in-law: Lois (Dar) Hartman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three grandsons: Mark, Adam, and Michael Kindig, sisters: Lois (MV) Nichols, and Gerry (Don) Harbeck.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Joseph Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326 in Dolores’s memory.
